+Our mackerel is wood-fire smoked using alder wood, which adds a subtle, sweet note that perfectly complements the naturally delicious flavor of the fish. A plentiful, underutilized species, mackerel is an excellent way to eat lower on the food chain.
These fillets can be enjoyed straight out of the can, in a variety of recipes, or on crackers, bagels, salads and more.
Ingredients: Smoked mackerel (Scomber japonicus or Scomber colias), organic extra virgin olive oil, water, sea salt
Fishing method: Single-species purse seine methods that virtually eliminate unintended bycatch. Any incidental bycatch of other species is fully retained and utilized. Nothing is discarded. FADs* are never used.
Harvest Location: Our mackerel is harvested in the North Atlantic Ocean and the Eastern Pacific Ocean, working with well-managed fisheries in Morocco and Ecuador that practice sustainable harvesting of targeted free-swimming schools of mackerel.
*Fish Aggregating Devices (FADs) are man-made objects that attract fish often outside of the targeted species causing unintentional bycatch.
